Records of farming and agriculture include: bill of sale, 24 Feb. 1799, Edgefield District, S.C., Rice Swearingen, re sale of slave to Mary Swearingen; agreement, 7 Oct. 1823, Edgefield District, S.C., between Eldred Simkins and Moses Swearingen for operation of Simkins' plantation; accounts, 13 Feb. 1835 and 8 Jan. 1836, of Larkin Swearingen with Vaucluse Manufacturing Company for work on plows, cloth, and beef.
